If AMERICAN HISTORY X had not tried to jam too much into the last act, it's entirely possible we'd be talking about it now as one of the greatest most uncompromising movies of all time. Every time I watch it I'm struck not only by Edward Norton's performance, but by the power of the film in its raw energy.
Then that third act comes up and they try to explain "motivation" and it just doesn't work. The film is so good, I almost get mad.
